GS1 Standards supports ECR implementation

Serve consumers better, increase sales and save costs at the same time: These are three goals of the ECR (Efficient Consumer Response) business model. GS1 Switzerland represents ECR in Switzerland and is actively involved in further developing the concept in the global ECR community.

The ECR business model is based on cross-company collaboration and comprises a holistic concept of standards, process models and methods. The vision of the ECR concept is to fulfil consumer wishes quickly, cost-effectively and even better than before - and doing so in a sustainable manner: ECR combines strategic, process-related and technical aspects to eliminate inefficiencies along the value chain. For all those involved in the value chain, the focus must be on the benefit for the consumer. This is the only way to uncover potential and achieve benefits for the customer that one division or one company could not realise on its own.

ECR has existed in Switzerland since 1995, and the organisation of ECR Switzerland has been integrated into GS1 Switzerland since 2005. The globally valid GS1 standards are ideally suited for the implementation of the ECR business model.

ECR's specialist areas

Demand Side

Demand management controls demand and ensures that the focus is on customers and consumers. This also includes demand-driving actions such as category management, shopper or customer journey management or omnichannel retailing.

Supply Side

ECR models provide supply chain management with efficient and effective processes for managing and controlling the flow of goods. The various standards and processes can also be used in combination to optimise the design of the supply chain.

Integrators

Integrators take responsibility for the solution of concrete problems in the operational business. Examples are on-shelf availability, out of stock, shelf-ready packaging, waste prevention, shrink reduction and also Collaborative Planning, Forecasting & Replenishment (CPFR).

Data management

Nowadays, almost every process is digitally replicated, every product digitally represented. This generates vast amounts of data. Correct management of this data is crucial for success, whether master data, transaction data or analysis data. The Global Data Synchronisation Network (GDSN) is suitable for comprehensive data management.

Supporting technologies GS1 Standards (Enabling Technologies)

ECR promotes the uniform application of process-supporting technologies. The focus is on economies of scale and investment security. ECR focuses on the widespread use of GS1 standards.
