GS1 Company Prefix (GCP)
The GS1 Company Prefix is a part of GS1 data structures. It consists of a GS1 Prefix, which is administered by GS1, and a Company Number, which is assigned by a GS1 Member Organisation. The GCP is used to create all GS1 Identification Keys and ensures that the GS1 ID Keys are unambiguous and worldwide unique.
Composition of a GCP
A GS1 Company Prefix consists of the following:
- GS1 Prefix (76 = Switzerland and Liechtenstein)
- Company Number (usually 7-digit, e.g. 1234567)
This results in the 9-digit GCP 761234567.
Example of use
All GS1 Identification Keys are created by using the GCP. The most widely used GS1 ID Keys are the GTIN, the SSCC and the GLN.

The GTIN is used to identify products and services. Based on this given 9-digit GCP, a range of 1'000 different GTINs can be created. If the capacity of the GCP is not sufficient, an additional GCP can be obtained.

GS1 Switzerland provides GCPs to all companies located in Switzerland or Liechtenstein. To obtain a GCP for your company, you need to be a member of GS1 Switzerland. (membership application forms)
